Bluegrass at the Depot

WFWM 91.9 FM, Public Radio from FSU, will host “Bluegrass at The Depot” featuring Highland Grass in concert at Frostburg’s historic Depot on Thursday, May 22, and Friday, May 23. The concerts are being held in conjunction with the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad’s “Bluegrass Special Trains.” Highland Grass will perform during the train’s 90-minute layover at the Depot and will begin between 12:30-1PM.

Highland Grass is a well-known bluegrass band from the tri-state area of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Highland Grass has been playing traditional bluegrass music in the Allegheny Mountain region for the past three decades. The band has featured quite a number of talented musicians through the years. The present group consists of founding member Joe Winebrenner on mandolin and vocals, Homer Beeman on fiddle and vocals, Donna Winebrenner on vocals, Janet Winebrenner on bass and Joe Winebrenner Jr. on banjo. The Bluegrass Special trains will depart the Western Maryland Station in Cumberland at 11:30AM. The three-hour excursion abroad the 1916 Baldwin steam engine 2-8-0 features natural scenic highlights like the Narrows, Helmstetter’s Curve and Woodcock Hollows.
