This year's juror and awards judge is Debra Joy Groesser, an accomplished painter from Ralston, Nebraska. Debra is best known for her impressionistic landscape paintings, particularly her plein air work. She is the President and a signature member of the American Impressionist Society, and signature member of both Plein Air Artists Colorado (PAAC) and American Plains Artists. She also serves on the PAAC board as national show chair. "Painting is such a spiritual experience for me. Nothing inspires me more than being out on location, capturing the subtle nuances of color, light and atmosphere that can only be achieved by painting from nature." Debra's ability to render emotion and mood and to capture the spirit of her subjects draws both private and corporate collectors worldwide to her work. "When I find a subject that triggers a strong emotional response in me, I know that's what I have to paint. My greatest satisfaction is when the viewer has that same emotional response I did."
Debra is also well known for her portraits and figurative works. Her most visible portrait commission to date hangs at Omaha's Holland Performing Arts Centera 4x6 foot portrait of Richard and Mary Holland, commissioned by Omaha Performing Arts. Debra has participated in countless juried and invitational exhibitions, including Oil Painters of America National and Regional Exhibitions, American Impressionist Society, Salon International, Plein Air Artists Colorado National Exhibitions, Laguna Plein Air Invitational (California), Carmel Art Festival (California), Door County Plein Air Festival (Wisconsin), and Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts (Alabama). Debra's work has also been featured in several national art publications, including Art of the West, American Art Collector and Southwest Art. She is represented by SouthWind Art Gallery, Topeka KS, Mountainsong Galleries, Carmel CA, Abend Gallery, Denver CO, and Art in Miniature, Tubac AZ.
