2010 Mountain Maryland Plein Air

06/01/2010-06/06/2010
Welcome to the 2010 Mountain Maryland Plein Air event! This second annual juried exhibition and art competition is sponsored by the Allegany Arts Council, a non-profit organization that was established in 1975 to support and grow the arts in our community. The 2010 Mountain Maryland Plein Air event will take place from Tuesday, June 1 through Sunday, June 6 throughout Allegany County in Western Maryland. Only thirty (30) artists will be accepted to participate, and over $5,000 in prize money will be awarded.

The 2010 Mountain Maryland Plein Air event will begin with artist registration and an informal Welcome Reception & Dinner on Tuesday evening, from 5-7PM, at the Allegany Arts Council’s Saville Gallery in Downtown Cumberland. Over the course of the next three days, artists will paint at a variety of locations of their choosing throughout Allegany County. By Friday afternoon at 1PM, each of the thirty participating artists will submit two completed paintings to the C. William Gilchrist Museum of the Arts in Downtown Cumberland. From Friday evening through Sunday afternoon, the artwork will remain on display and available for sale at the Gilchrist Museum. After 4PM on Sunday, the event will conclude and participating artists will be asked to remove any unsold artwork.

This year's juror and awards judge is Lee Boynton. "Lee is a painter of light. He studied with Impressionist master Henry Hensche at the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown, MA and with Cedric Egeli in Annapolis, MD. He co-authored Painting the Impressionist Watercolor with Linda Gottlieb, one of his students, and is the founder and past president of the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association. His work has been selected for leading national and international exhibitions, and his plein air oil and watercolor paintings have received top awards in the Wayne Plein Air Arts Festival, Plein Air Easton and Paint Annapolis."
