The Allegany Arts Council's Saville Gallery will present Nothing is Best, featuring paintings and sculpture by artist Bill Dunlap. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, July 20 from 6-8PM. The event is free and open to the public.
"Nothing is Best sounds something of a riddle," says Bill Dunlap, "but it sounds like wisdom to me. In this show, there will be sculptures and paintings of faces, figures, creatures, landscapes, and patterns. But in a sense, maybe all my work is ultimately only about patterns. Without patterns there is only chaos. Chaos may be fine, but not ONLY chaos. Every composition becomes a pattern. I often paint on squares, and grouped squares become new patterns. Patterns may become symbols, or be made of symbols. All of this may give some sense of order, but never meaning. Meaning always remains open. That's the joy of art."
