The fifteenth (15th) anniversary of the Cumberland Day of Caring and Sharing will be held on Friday, May 18, 2012 from 8AM-Noon. To help mark this 15-year milestone, citizens are being asked to submit a design for a commemorative t-shirt. One design will be chosen to appear on approximately 750 t-shirts that will be worn by volunteers participating in the event.
The Day of Caring and Sharing is a partnership between the United Way of Allegany County, the Let’s Beautify Cumberland Committee, the City of Cumberland, Columbia Gas of MD and CSX Transportation. The very first event consisted of 75 volunteers and 8 projects. Volunteers were asked to bring their own lunches and they actually paid to volunteer for the event!
Times have changed! Last year approximately 723 volunteers participated and completed 59 projects. Volunteers received coffee, juice or milk and donuts in the morning, a t-shirt and a hot lunch, all which were donated or provided by the sponsors of the event, Columbia Gas and CSX.
The design will be screened on the front of the 15th Annual Day of Caring and Sharing t-shirt for Cumberland for 2012. The design must be submitted on white paper, maximum size of the submitted design to be 8 1/2 inches wide by 11 inches high, be limited to one color and one medium (pencil, magic marker, etc.).
Contestants are asked to include their name, address, telephone number and email address with their submission. Logos for United Way, Let’s Beautify Cumberland, and our sponsors, Columbia Gas and CSX Transportation will be placed under the design.
Judges will consider t-shirt designs that reflect community service and the work of our United Way partner organizations and/or work to improve the community facades with planting and mulching of flower gardens and parklets.
Designs need to be submitted to County United Way no later than noon on Friday, April 13. Hard copies of a design can be mailed or delivered to: County United Way, 71 Baltimore Street 3rd Floor, PO Box 307, Cumberland, MD 21501-0307. Electronic copies (preferred) of a design can be emailed to cuw@allconet.org. The winner will be notified within a week of the deadline and will be included in a press release announcing this year’s design.
