Irish musicians Pádraig Rynne and Ryan McGiver will perform a mix of traditional Irish and Breton music and American folk songs in a free concert at Mountain City Traditional Arts, 25 E. Main Street, Frostburg, on Sunday, July 29, at 3PM.
Rynne is an Irish concertina prodigy from County Clare who has performed and recorded with a long A-list of traditional and rock musicians, including Dónal Lunny, Arty McGlynn, Liz Carrol, Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, Liam Ó Maonlaí and Irish supergroup Flook. By age 11, Rynne had already won five All-Ireland titles and by age 16, had widely toured North American, Europe and Australia. His debut album, “Bye a While,” displayed his creative talents and earned widespread critical acclaim. In 2008, Rynne founded Guidewires, a group that has quickly grown into one of Irish music’s most popular touring bands.
Based in the local area, singer and guitarist McGiver has toured extensively throughout the U.S., Asia, Australia and Europe over the past decade, playing a mixture of traditional Irish and American music. He has recorded and shared stages with a diverse and eclectic mix of traditional, folk and rock musicians, including Kevin Crawford, Liz and Yvonne Kane, Doug Wieselman, Edel Fox, Jolie Holland and Shahzad Ismaily. McGiver is the guitarist for Grammy award-winning singer, Susan McKeown. His debut solo album of ballads, “Troubled in Mind,” is garnishing critical acclaim in the traditional and Indie-folk communities worldwide.
Melding years of talent and experience, this duo brings a powerful performance to Mountain Maryland. The free event is made possible with the generous support of MCTA and 91.9 WFWM, FSU’s public radio station.
