2019-08-24 2019-09-14 America/New_York Running from the Sun: Parker Reinecker Begins & Woodturning: The Work of the Quad State Bodgers Association

Parker Reinecker’s photography series, Running from the Sun: Parker Reinecker Begins, is a reflection of life in rural America. Heavily utilizing highlight, shadow, and symbolism, the work of this exhibit focuses on small towns in New Mexico along Route 66 that have suffered as the development of Interstate 40 and high poverty rates have led to a loss of tourism there. The series echoes the experiences of countless blue-collar towns throughout the United States, where the disappearance of industry has changed the physical and economic landscape.

Alongside Reinecker’s photographs will be a display of the work of Aaron Grebeldinger, Fred Higson, and Jeff Ziegler of the Quad State Bodgers Association.  These artists practice the ancient art of woodturning, creating pieces that are stunning in their beauty and symmetry. Like the potter’s wheel, the wood lathes they use generate a variety of forms limited only by the imagination of the artists themselves.

A public opening will be held Saturday, August 24, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. The event is free and open to the public.
