One of the important functions of the Allegany Arts Council is to grant funds to local non-profit organizations and individuals. In FY'17 (July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017), the Allegany Arts Council awarded over $25,000 in General Operating Grants, Placemaking Grants and Hadra Scholarship Grants to individuals and organizations throughout Allegany County. Applications are reviewed annually by a committee of community members. Funding for the General Operating Grant program is made possible through the Community Arts Development program of the Maryland State Arts Council. Please select the grant titles below to learn more about funding opportunities from the Allegany Arts Council.

The Allegany Arts Council has an Emerging Artist Residency grant which is funded by RBC Wealth Management. We are looking for talented emerging artists to come to Allegany County to spend eight weeks of the summer making art, giving workshops and teaching classes. We are looking for a maximum level of community engagement so the Emerging Artist has the highest visibility possible.

The grant is $2500. This can be used by the artist for any expenses. The Allegany Arts Council will try to help artists reduce expenses by finding a local host, but we cannot promise this option will be available.
The timing of the residency is flexible, but it must take place between May 30 and Sept. 1.
We are seeking an artist for summer 2017 or 2018.

To apply:
Artists must send the following:
1) A 1 page proposal of what sort of artwork, workshops, classes or community engagement they would do in Allegany County
2) A resume
3) At least 6 digital samples of their work or a link to a website where the work can be easily seen
4) An artist statement

These can be sent to:

Placemaking Grants

The Allegany Arts Council Placemaking Grants are designed to assist our community in making Allegany County, and specifically its two Arts & Entertainment Districts in Cumberland and Frostburg, look and feel like arts destinations. This is done through projects such as open air performances, murals and other public art, arts walks, pop-up events and galleries, artist relocation and residency programs, outdoor workshops, children's programming, and festivals. The grants are awarded to non-profit organizations and individuals, or combinations of the above. In contrast to General Operating Grants, a Placemaking Grant is for a specific project or program that addressed placemaking. Partnering and collaborations are strongly encouraged.

Hadra Scholarship Fund

A committee of five community members considers these applications on a quarterly basis. Funding for the Hadra Scholarship Fund is made possible through individual and corporate philanthropy.
