In addition to providing a local art gallery and arts programming for Allegany County, one of our most important functions is to serve as a funding source to local nonprofit organizations and individuals interested in the pursuit of arts-related activities in our community. Over the past few years, the Allegany Arts Council has awarded more than $120,000 in grants which support creative and artistic endeavors.
Currently, applicants may select, or apply to both, General Operating Grants and Creative Placemaking Grants. General Operating Grants are open to 501(c)3 organizations whose primary mission is arts-related and the maximum award per year is $3,500. Creative Placemaking Grants are open to both individual artists and non-profit organizations for activities and projects which directly support artful projects, initiatives or events which contribute to developing a sense of “place”. The maximum award for this grant is $5,000 annually. For additional eligibility information and guidelines, please review the links below.

As a reminder, all applicants must submit a fully-completed application by the application deadline of June 30, 2020.

The Allegany Arts Council bylaws require a Grants Committee comprised of its Executive Director as Chair, and six members of the community, who should represent a broad-base of the community it represents. The Grants Committee reviews all applications and uses a rubric to rank them based upon completion of eligibility guidelines, final reports from previous years, overall funding need and artistic merit. Notifications and payment are made to awarded organizations no later than November 1, 2020.

Funding for the General Operating Grant program is made possible through the County Arts Development program of the Maryland State Arts Council.
