Since 1975, the Allegany Arts Council has been the official "umbrella" organization for the arts in Allegany County, Maryland. The Arts Council is headquartered in the heart of Downtown Cumberland at 9 N. Centre Street (just off the Baltimore Street pedestrian mall), and is one of several anchors in the City’s vibrant Arts & Entertainment District. The office is staffed Monday through Friday from 9AM–5PM, and Saturdays from 11AM-4PM. Visitors are always welcome! Please follow this link for our Accessibility Statement.
At this same location, the Allegany Arts Council also maintains a professional exhibition space, The Saville Gallery, that features the artwork of local, regional and national artists. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9AM–5PM, and Saturdays from 11AM-4PM. From mid-May to mid-November, the Saville Gallery is also open on Sundays from 11AM–4PM. In addition to rotating art exhibits, the Saville Gallery is also the host site for the first Art-o-Mat® machine in the State of Maryland!
The Allegany Arts Council's facility at 9 N. Centre Street also includes a separate "Community Room" with a raised stage and a professional sound & lighting system that is available for small performances, live music, literary readings, workshops, meetings and classes. To learn more about using our Community Room for arts programming, please download the Community Room Guidelines and Fees, or contact Tiffany Santos at tsantos@allconet.org, or 301-777-ARTS (2787).
Programming sponsored by the Allegany Arts Council is made possible, in part, by a Community Arts Development Grant from the Maryland State Arts Council and the annual financial support of Allegany County, the City of Cumberland and the City of Frostburg. Membership dues and community philanthropy are also vital to our continued success. The Allegany Arts Council also appreciates the important work done by Maryland Citizens for the Arts to advocate for continued State funding of the arts.
Membership in the Allegany Arts Council is open to everyone--you don't have to be an artist to join! You don't even have to live in Allegany County! So, if you’re not already a member, please follow this link to our Membership page to learn more about joining our organization. You're also welcome to download the current issue of The Arts Connection, our bi-monthly electronic newsletter, to get a better sense for the active arts community here in Western Maryland.
