To better understand the needs of our Member Organizations, the Allegany Arts Council recently conducted an on-line Organizational Assessment Survey (click here for the survey results). The general areas of need that were identified as most important by the majority of survey respondents were: Grant Seeking Assistance, Marketing Services and/or Strategies, Web Site Design & Development, and Regional Cooperative Advertising. In response to the survey results, the Allegany Arts Council Board of Directors voted to pledge $10,000 from its operating reserves to fund the following initiatives:
$3,000 will be allocated to provide financial assistance for local and regional training opportunities that directly support the operational mission of our Member Organizations, and/or help to strengthen the capabilities and effectiveness of their Board members and staff;
$3,000 will be used to market Allegany County, and specifically our arts attractions and activities, to the surrounding region. We hope that this will translate into more attendance at your art events, and help to compliment and support ongoing efforts to “brand” our area as a regional arts destination (follow this link for details about our "Alive with the Arts Ticket Giveaway" contest); and
$4,000 will be added to the existing pool of funds for FY’11 General Operating Grants. This will ultimately increase the amount of money that the Allegany Arts Council is able to re-grant to local arts organizations in the coming fiscal year.
The first of these three initiatives to be implemented will be to provide financial assistance for local and regional training opportunities that directly support the operational mission of our Member Organizations, and/or help to strengthen the capabilities and effectiveness of their Board members and staff. Below is a list of "pre-approved" classes or workshops that the Allegany Arts Council will help to fund. With a receipt or proof of participation, board members and staff from Member Organizations may request up to a $50 reimbursement for each training opportunity that they successfully complete. Individuals may be reimbursed for as many as two (2) classes or workshops, and each Member Organization will be limited to $250 in reimbursements. Here are several training opportunities that we are recommending (please register using the contact information that is provided):
