The Allegany Arts Council and its Saville Gallery are pleased to present local artist, Greg Malloy, in a solo exhibition to take place in its Saville Gallery, September 30-October 21, 2023.
About the Artist
Through proverbial rose-colored glasses, Greg Malloy sees great beauty and infinite joy in the world around him. With each piece of art that he creates, Greg strives to capture that beauty and joy onto the canvas, giving the audience the opportunity to see the world through those same lenses. In every nook and cranny of his surroundings, Greg sees bright, vivid colors - colors that he looks to replicate when putting brush to canvas. Vibrant colors, playful imagery and bold lines are what make a G.P. Malloy painting, because those are the things that make up the artist, Greg Malloy.
Greg was born and raised in Cumberland, a provincial town, nestled in the mountains of Western Maryland. It is here where his artistic journey began. It is here where he finds much of his inspiration. And it is here where he maintains his art studio, just seven doors down from his childhood home. Greg’s world, however, is not limited to borders of his hometown; his work has been shown in galleries in larger metropolitan areas, such as Cleveland and Baltimore, as well as a number of smaller community galleries throughout Maryland and Pennsylvania. Greg’s work has even made it into the collections of a number of patrons internationally, including those in New Zealand, Iceland, Cuba, China, Brazil, Portugal and Spain, to name a few.
About the Exhibition
Working best with a deadline hanging over his head, pressure and procrastination play vital roles in his creative process. Working organically with raw materials, Greg builds his own canvases, giving life not only to the work itself, but to the platform on which the work is presented to the world. This gives Greg the opportunity to work in a variety of sizes, including the massive pieces that will be featured in his upcoming installation at the Saville Gallery, “Inch by Inch”, which will feature a number of paintings and floor cloths that measure well-over 20 feet in length.
Inch by Inch will give patrons a unique opportunity to share in a collective experience. Each of the works created by Greg for this show will be sold not as individual paintings; patrons instead will be offered the opportunity to add a piece of each work to their own collections, how ever big or small of a piece that collector chooses. The chosen portion will be marked off, and at the close of the show, the larger works will be divided and presented to the respective patron.
Inch by Inch will be on exhibition September 30-October 21, 2023, in the Saville Gallery, and a Public Opening will take place on Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 6:00PM-8:00PM. The event is free and open to the public.
