The Allegany Arts Council is excited to announce the first in a series of pop-up exhibitions across our community. The Pop-Up Members Show takes place November 2-23, 2024, and showcases the work of Arts Council members across a wide variety of mediums. A Public Opening will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 5:00PM-7:00PM. All are invited to attend.
Why Pop-Up?
The Arts Council's longtime gallery space was sold to new ownership earlier this year, and the Arts Council made a permanent investment in Allegany County by purchasing 123 Baltimore Street, which requires extensive renovations. In the meantime, we are partnering with organizations across our community to showcase a variety of pop-up occasions.
Who is our partner?
For this show, we are partnering with Allegany County Office of Economic Development to host the exhibition at the beautiful and historic Lyric Theatre in Frostburg. This two-story space is available for public use and includes high ceilings and a mezzanine level, perfect for an artsy evening. To learn more about utilizing this space, visit here.
When can I view the show?
The exhibition will be open Wednesday-Saturday during the exhibition period, between the hours of 1:00PM and 5:00PM daily. A member of our staff will be onsite. To access the Lyric Theatre, you may enter from Main Street.
A digital gallery will also be available.
Who can enter the show?
All members of the Allegany Arts Council in good standing are eligible to participate in the Pop-Up Members Show and entries must be received no later than Monday, October 21, 2024.
Entry fees are $10.00 per member.
What art is accepted into the show?
Participating members may submit one (1) framed piece or a single 3D work or A/V piece. Framed art dimensions may not exceed 35” wide, including frame. 3D pieces may not exceed a footprint of more than 35” square.
Given the pop-up nature of this show, works will be displayed on tabletop or standing easels for two-dimensional works, or pedestals/tables for three-dimensional works. Lighting will be limited to existing venue capabilities.
Members who wish to submit another art form may do so – poetry, prose, video and/or film can be accommodated – please contact us for specific arrangements.
Artwork may be delivered beginning Friday, October 18, with the final day to receive being Friday, October 25, prior to 5:00PM. Entries should be delivered to 42 N. Centre Street, Cumberland, MD. Please ensure boxes and wrapping are clearly marked.
Prizes:
Cash prizes will be awarded in several categories.
Gallery Sales
All participating artwork must be available for sale – members receive 80% of the proceeds of sales. Members wishing to purchase artwork may do so at a 10% discount for this exhibition only.
