About the Appalachian Pastel League
The Appalachian Pastel League is a group of artists, for artists, that center on the enjoyment of creating in pastels. They are based in Cumberland, in a valley between the Western Maryland Mountains of Allegany County. We are just one of the bridges between the public and the creators. Our home organization is the Allegany Arts Council.
We showcase the use of both oil pastel and soft pastel. Soft pastels have been used by the great masters for hundreds of years and oil pastel for thousands. Putting them on the forefront of the minds of our patrons is one of our goals. We show the importance of these wonderful materials, in creating beautiful works of art.
Membership is $24 annually and the League conducts quarterly workshops which mix skill development with networking. The League also exhibits work in group exhibits around the region.
