The Arts & Entertainment District of Cumberland is pleased to announce a new initiative, Studio Sessions, which will take place in January and February 2023.
What are Studio Sessions?
Studio Sessions will take place from January 10-27, 2023, on the 2nd floor of the Allegany Arts Council. During this time, artists will be given separate, 8'x8' studio spaces where they can paint, draw, sketch, sew, write, dance, or develop their practice. Space will also be made available for collaborations between artists. The goal is get creating, learn and develop the artist's practice in a supportive and creative space.
At the conclusion of the Studio Sessions makerspace, participating artists will be invited to show works created during this time in the Saville Gallery of the Allegany Arts Council. Exhibited works can include paintings, drawings, sculptures, poetry, essays, video, original music and performance. Our goal is to celebrate local artists and showcase the incredible talent of our community.
Who can participate?
Studio Sessions are open to any artist wishing to participate, but space is limited and members of the Allegany Arts Council will be given first priority. Participating artists will be required to commit a certain number of hours per week to studio time, may be asked to participate in marketing programs to promote the sessions, and to demonstrate their work processes throughout the month. Participating artists must also complete at least (2) works to be shown in the gallery exhibit, which will take place February 4-25, 2023.
