Artist Name: Lita Havens
Art medium(s): Watercolor, Fabric Art, Mixed Media
Artist Bio: I have always been guided by my curiosity to explore the different tactile qualities of fabrics, paper, yarns, and threads. I continually question conventional approaches to creating art with my ‘What if?’ attitude. My fascination with sculpting 3D structures has contributed to transforming recycled fabrics into pieces I call ‘vessels’. My watercolor art reflects how I interpret objects, events, and feelings through the arrangements of forms – utilizing contrasting positive and negative patterns to create a textured appearance and illusion of movement.
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of the Philippines. After graduation, I began my career as an art teacher, later working for many years in several NYC advertising agencies as a Print Producer. I am a past president and remain an active member of the Western Maryland Watercolor Society and the Schoolhouse Quilters Guild. I am also an active member of the Allegany Arts Council. In 2023, I was able to restart the Young Artists’ Studio free youth art classes at the LaVale Library through an arts council individual artist grant.
