Artist bio: Curiosity is the spark that ignites my creative process. Fortunately (or unfortunately), I am curious about a number of things, in particular the natural world. Growing up in western Pennsylvania, I spent countless hours outside and wandering the woods. But it wasn’t until I took Botanical Illustration courses at Phipps Conservatory that I became truly serious about art. I enjoy the simplicity of the compositions and attention to detail required to make the subject come alive. I employ botanical and scientific illustration techniques to invite the viewer to slow down and examine that which we often overlook. While I illustrate anything I find intriguing, my most frequent subjects are plants and wildlife. I especially enjoy learning about and depicting species native to Appalachia. We are surrounded by a wealth of natural beauty and I hope my work encourages the viewer to become curious themselves.
