In 2024, the Allegany Arts Council took a major step and purchased an underutilized property located in the heart of downtown Cumberland and within the borders of the city's Arts & Entertainment District. After nearly 15 years at 9 N. Centre Street, we are excitedly entering a new chapter.
Like many buildings across rural communities, our future home is in need of extensive renovation, but will ultimately feature an art gallery and exhibition space, multi-purpose areas for collaboration and creativity, and will share access with another local non-profit organization, Loft 129, whose 100-seat music venue will create a one-stop shop for the arts on Cumberland's famed Baltimore Street.
Our future home will also offer more than 7000 square feet of space, and will join recent investors and developers eager to join the renaissance taking place in our community.
In late 2024, the Arts Council partnered with local architectural firm, Chaney Architects, Inc., to take the first steps in designing and planning for our permanent home. While the process is underway, our staff and administrative offices have moved closer to the building and can be found at 107-109 Baltimore Street, where we will reside through 2025.
