The Levitt AMP Cumberland Music Series is honored to present Jane Monheit, a celebrated jazz vocalist whose lush interpretations of the Great American Songbook have captivated audiences worldwide for over two decades.
A classically trained musician with deep roots in jazz, Jane Monheit rose to prominence at age 20 after earning second place in the prestigious Thelonious Monk (now Hancock) Competition. By 22, she was recording her debut album and performing alongside jazz legends like Tommy Flanagan, Ron Carter, and Kenny Barron. Her extraordinary voice and interpretive depth quickly earned her collaborations with icons including Terence Blanchard, Ivan Lins, Christian McBride, and John Pizzarelli.
Jane Monheit’s career includes twelve acclaimed studio albums, numerous television appearances—from The Tonight Show to CBS Sunday Morning—and contributions to film soundtracks like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and Never Let Me Go. She has graced the stages of the Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, and iconic jazz clubs including Birdland and The Village Vanguard.
In addition to her extensive touring, Monheit contributes English lyrics for Brazilian legend Ivan Lins and mentors emerging vocalists around the world. With a voice that bridges vintage elegance and modern emotional clarity, Jane Monheit continues to be one of the most beloved and influential vocalists in contemporary jazz.
