Allegany Arts Council Names 2023-2024 General Operating Grant Award Recipients

CUMBERLAND—The Allegany Arts Council announced on Giving Tuesday the recipients of its FY2023-2024 General Operating Grant program, totaling just over $30,000 in funds which support arts organizations and programming in Allegany County.

Arts organizations were eligible to apply for up to $3,500 in operating support which can be used to cover a broad range of expenses and needs for non-profit organizations. Recipients included Loft 129, Savage Mountain Punk Arts, FSU Center for Literary Arts, Cumberland Jazz Society, Cumberland Theatre, Potomac Concert Band, World Artists Experiences, Embassy Theatre, Mountainside Baroque, Tri-State Community Concert Association, Cumberland Choral Society, Cumberland Cultural Foundation, FSU Department of Theatre & Dance, Chorus of the Potomac and WFWM Public Radio.

Says Julie Westendorff, executive director of the Arts Council, “It’s customary for organizations for ask for funding on Giving Tuesday, but this year we wanted to support our friends and fellow arts organization by giving away funds on this important day. The work of arts organizations all across our community not only contributes to our local economy, but adds the color and zest to life which only the arts can bring. We are proud to be able to offer this support.”

These funds add to significant grant programs launched by the Arts Council in 2023, including its highly-successful Individual Artist Grant program, which awarded more than $20,000 in January, and its $10,000 sponsorship of the Frostburg State University Cultural Event Series. The Arts Council is also serving as the lead sponsor of the Western Maryland Jaycees’ 2024 Lights on the Lake.
