Allegany Arts Council announces winners of 22nd Annual Will’s Creek Exhibition of Fine Art

CUMBERLAND—The Allegany Arts Council announced the winners of its 22nd Annual Will’s Creek Exhibition of Fine Art at a public opening on Saturday, September 11, in its Saville Gallery. Juror Laura Roulet, an independent curator and writer based in the Washington, DC area, selected winners from the work of 54 artists from 22 states throughout the United States, chosen from nearly 400 pieces submitted to the competition.

Alice Valenti won Best in Show for her visual album, Watch, comprised of twelve pencil and water media drawings, bound together within a handmade accordion book. Valenti lives in Springs, MD. Other winners include: First Place: No Dumping, Hao Zhang, Boise, ID; Second Place: Wheatfield Falls, Nathan Taves, Columbia City, IN; Third Place: Bound Cyclical, Zach Lihatsh, Tucson, AZ; Honorable Mention: The New Face, Paula Saneaux, Hagerstown, MD; and Honorable Mention: Amish Farm Workers, Penny Knobel-Besa, Flintstone, MD.

The Arts Council will host a free livestream event, Dive into the Creek: Exploring the 22nd Annual Will’s Creek Exhibition of Fine Art on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 6:00-7:00PM. The event will feature both the juror and the winners of this year’s competition, taking a deeper dive into their work.
