Allegany Arts Council announces winners of 24th Annual Will’s Creek Exhibition of Fine Art

CUMBERLAND—The Allegany Arts Council announced winners of its 24th Annual Will’s Creek Exhibition of Fine Art this past Saturday evening. The contest is the longest-running, national competition of the Arts Council and focuses on contemporary artwork.

2023 juror, Michael Lease, Director of Facilities and Experience Design at the Institute for Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University invited 27 artists to participate in this year’s competition, representing a small fraction of the more than 450 entries received.

The competition awards more than $4000 in prizes to winning artists and winners include:

Best in Show – Rivalry, Jessica Teckemeyer, Stillwater, OK;

First Place – Bobba Suspended, Prescott Moore Lassman, Washington, D.C.;

Second Place – Ketamine Dreaming, Jeanette Hammerstein, Bloomington, IN;

Third Place – 2_Vertigo, Cynthia Bickley Green, Greenville, NC; and

Honorable Mention – Prepared Shelves 4.1 (Side 1), Bryan Florentin, Dallas, TX

Members of the public may vote for the People’s Choice award by visiting the gallery at 9 N. Centre Street through September 23, 2023, when the exhibition concludes.

In addition to these festivities, the Arts Council will host a free event on Friday, September 15, 2023, Saville After Dark: A Look Inside the 24th Annual Will’s Creek Exhibition with Frostburg State University professor, Travis English. The event begins at 6:00PM.
