Something A Mazing is coming to Canal Place

CUMBERLAND—Get ready for something A Mazing!! The Allegany Arts Council is pleased to announce a temporary public art project in collaboration with local artists Christopher Sloan, Bill Dunlap, and Arnold d'Epagnier. The project, A Mazing City, will be installed on the grounds of Canal Place beginning September 10, 2021, and will remain through December 1, 2021.

A Mazing City will consist of large, colorful panels in shapes that celebrate Cumberland’s architectural assets in a bright and artful way. Visitors will enjoy walking through the maze-like structure and taking photos. The public art project also will have a major visual impact on the Great Allegheny Passage and I-68.

Join us during Heritage Days Festival weekend, September 11-12, as members of the artist team, Arts Council staff, and ArtLab will be onsite at A Mazing City. Visitors are invited to participate in creating their own architectural panels to join in the fun.

Special thanks to our partners: Passages of the Western Potomac Heritage Area, the Maryland State Arts Council, and our talented artist team for making this project possible.
