The Mountain Maryland Artist Studio Tour program is an initiative of the Allegany Arts Council. The program invites visitors to meet artists in their studio environments, where they see artists actively working and creating. It also gives visitors and residents of our community a first-hand glimpse into the creative economy, encouraging them to support local artisans and their work. Below are frequently asked questions about the Studio Tour program.

Do I have to be a member of the Allegany Arts Council?
Yes, all participants must be current artist members, or higher, in good standing. If you are uncertain about your membership status, please contact us at 301.777.2787.

What if I don’t have my own studio but want to participate?
Artists who wish to participate but don’t have a studio may work with other local artists to combine efforts. If you are an artist looking for a place to showcase, please contact us at 301.777.2787 or at art@alleganyarts.org. We will make every effort to locate a studio space for you to participate. If you are an artist looking for other artists to support, please also contact us.

What is expected from me during the Studio Tour days?
Participating artists should plan for several things related to the Studio Tour program. Artists are expected to have their studios open to visitors on Saturday and Sunday, October 8 and 9, 2022, from 11:00AM-5:00PM each day. Artists may, but are not required to, provide light refreshments during those hours, and are encouraged to offer a warm and inviting atmosphere for guests to enjoy. Artists should have artwork for sale during these hours and demonstrations are highly encouraged.

Artists are also asked to help promote the program by posting to their individual or studio social media platforms, websites, or by outreach to their own network of supporters and customers.

How does the Arts Council support me as a participating artist?
The Allegany Arts Council manages the advertisement, promotion, and marketing for the Studio Tour program. In addition, we produce a booklet which includes maps, descriptions and images of each participant. Each participating artist will be given 50 books to distribute. Directional signage is also provided to each participant for use in directing visitors to your studio space.

What does it cost to participate? How do I sign up?
The cost of participation is $50 per artist. To participate in the 2022 Artist Studio Tour, please return the completed Artist Application (below) and registration fee to the Allegany Arts Council by August 30, 2022. Please pay careful attention to the following pages which contain additional information as part of your application.
