The Allegany Arts Council is a non-profit organization working to ensure that Allegany County is A Community Alive with the Arts! Our mission is to promote awareness, understanding and appreciation of the literary, visual and performing arts in Western Maryland in order to enhance the quality of life in our area. The Allegany Arts Council is funded by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), an agency dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive. An agency of the Department of Business & Economic Development, the MSAC provides financial support and technical assistance to non profit organizations, units of government, colleges and universities for arts activities. Funding for the MSAC is also provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
Maryland Citizens for the Arts, Inc. is a statewide arts advocacy organization, founded in 1977 to represent all Maryland artists and arts organizations of all disciplines. Its principal mission is to promote adequate funding for the Maryland State Arts Council, to advocate for the arts at the state and federal levels, and to increase public recognition and support of the arts in Maryland.
